Director & Producer
Josh Gleason has been directing and producing documentary film and television for more than a decade. His work has screened at film festivals across the United States and Europe, and has been broadcast on PBS and Showtime.
Josh co-directed and produced The Disrupted, which premiered at Dok.fest Munich in 2020 and was distributed theatrically in the United States—where it was critically acclaimed. In 2019, Josh directed and produced the documentary short True Believer, which premiered at the Ashland International Film Festival and is now streaming on The Atlantic.
In 2017, during the chaotic early days of the Trump administration, Josh was a producer on the second season of the Emmy-nominated Showtime series, The Circus. From 2014-2016 Josh directed episodes of the hit PBS series Finding Your Roots and produced Henry Louis Gates, Jr.’s interviews with numerous American icons such as Gloria Steinem, Bernie Sanders, and Carole King. Prior to joining the series, Josh produced several PBS programs including The Italian Americans, American Experience, and History Detectives.
Josh co-founded Lovely Louise Pictures with cinematographer Vanessa Carr. Together, they are co-directing Nomads, a feature documentary currently in post-production. The project has been selected by numerous film festivals to participate in exclusive industry events, including DOC NYC, Big Sky, Edinburgh, and Doclands—where it was a prize winner. In 2024, Josh and Vanessa were awarded a LEF/CIFF fellowship.
Josh is a member of the DGA. He holds an honors degree from Brown University and is a graduate of the Salt Institute for Documentary Studies. For a full list of credits visit imdb.com.
